Autism Treatments Used by Children with Isodicentric 15 Syndrome

IDEAS is collaborating with Dr. Susan Levy and her colleagues on a study regarding the use of autism treatments, including complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) among children with idic(15).  This study is one project in a series of projects currently underway at the Center of Excellence in Autism Epidemiology and Research (CADDRE) funded by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, and The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.

The study investigators have extended an existing survey of use of treatment methods beyond their initial population of children with autism to include children who have a diagnosis of both autism and isodicentric 15.  This study provided a means to systematically collect data regarding autism treatments, including CAM use among individuals with idic(15).  The results will help parents and doctors with much needed information regarding which treatments children with idic(15) have received, and what parents think the benefits and problems related to these treatments are.

Data collection began in February, 2006, and 100 surveys were collected by June 30, 2006.  Results should be reported in 2007.
